Just watching this again and am surprised at how horrifying and dark it is. There's a scene at 33 minutes into the movie where Doug Bukowski walks around a crater made by nuclear testing. There are several wrecks of cars here, much like you see in the Mad Max Fury Road Rock Riders scene, some buggies, and scavenging crows. Very Mad Max.

It just so happens that I'm getting ready to watch the original Wes Craven movie, in a few minutes. I think the remake might have it beaten as far as disturbing subject matter goes, but the original has a mutant in it referring to a little baby as a "tenderloin." Hilarious!

In truth, they weren't mutants in the original.

Tenderloin was a character in the video game. She was the huffing addict who you have to fight in the Thunderdome.
Btw, that is a great coincidence. Awesome.

I don't like horror movie remakes in general but this is one I thought improved over the original in a lot of ways. Making the clan mutants and the stronger story of the dads transformation from wuss to fighter to get his baby back really worked. Has anyone checked out the coming The Hills Have Eyes : The Beginning? It serves as a prequel to the first movie and a fill in to events just before the second sequel. Pretty good read I thought.

I thought maybe the govt. had tested in the area where the cannibals lived, and Wes just didn't spell it all out. Or maybe I've just seen the remake too damn many times, and it's got my mind stuck on a certain storyline.
RIP WES CRAVEN
Oh, thanks for the welcome!

Well, in truth the first movie is pretty much mysterious. On this sub-board you'll find my personal THHE timeline comprising of THHE1 and THHE2 (the original saga). It seems like the origin of the cannibals ( The Pack) in the original movies is just inbreeding. Nothing more. Of course, you're welcomed here!
