- The original movie, "The Evil Dead" (1981), is the most frightening and the scariest horror movie of all times --- and it's not "funny" at all. There is no comedy, intentional or unintentional, apart Scott's jokes at the beginning. Evil Linda is scary and her constant laughing feels demonic and intimidating to say the least.
- "Evil Dead II" is a serious horror movie tinted with DARK comedy and action as well. Still, it's a horror movie. The ending is tragic and bleak, because the lead character is doomed to live forever stranded in 1300 AD, fighting the Evil Dead until the very last days of his life (for a moment, just pretend you live in 1987 and you don't know about the "Army of Darkness" movie).
- "Army of Darkness" is half horror, half fantasy, half adventure, half action, half comedy. It's a cinematic experiment. It's not a spoof at all. It's not a parody. It's totally insane, but not a parody.
- Ash in AvED is supposed to be old and "changed" since the original Evil Dead events in his life. He's a kind of sociopath at this point. He doesn't feel many emotions. THAT's why he cracks jokes at un-needed times. He's not a caricature. He's actually a deep character.

Evil Dead the original still provokes laughter through its mania. You giggle along with the chortling demons. It's noiseporn
