Either "Evil Dead II" and "Ash vs Evil Dead" confirm that the cabin belonged to Professor Raymond Knowby, thus it was one private propriety... and Knowby disappeared one week before the guys would arrive - as stated by Annie Knowby. I guess the guys sneaked in, and someone informed them on where to find the keys? The ED2 recap also seems to suggest that.

In Season 2 Knowby's wife seemed to know Ash. I would have to assume that Ash must have known them (or at least dealt) with them before. Or maybe one of the friends from the first movie knew the Knowbys and asked if they could use their cabin for a weekend.

I remember that in The Evil Dead, it was Scott to talk about the cabin and the "guy" who supervised the renting. I guess it was Scott to deal with someone... Raymond himself? It's intriguing.

True. Although I suppose they might have rented it before. Or maybe Scott met up with her several times to give her payments and Ash came with him?

Finally without trolls well... trolling. Which scene or detail suggests you that Henrietta already knew Ash? I didn't notice that, but I'm genuinely curious. Mind you, Ash is 58 years old in Season 2. And she wasn't even Henrietta, but the Kandarian Demon having access to her memories (and we don't know how that truly works anyway). I just can't remember the exact quote of Scott talking about the "guy".

It's been a few weeks since I watched the episode, but I remember her coming out of her "deadite form" for a few minutes and becoming normal and she said something along the lines of Ash, is that you? Ash seemed to recognize her and called her by name. Now obviously it could have been a trick on her part being a deadite, and Ash could have known her from after the cabin incident.

And yeah, it's real nice not having trolls.

Jesus... if that is true, then it definitely answers the question. Ash recognized her because he already met her in Evil Dead II, of course. But at that point of the past, the Kandarian Demon didn't know who Ash was. At all. So he was using Henrietta's memories.

They're great at messing with your head. HE's great at messing with your head. Another trick is when "he" talks in a way it makes you think it's about "them". The Kandarian Demon is one and only. He can possess more human people at the very same time. Example: in The Evil Dead, he was Evil Cheryl and Evil Shelly at the very same time. That said, I'm gonna check that sequence again. If Pre-Evil Dead II Evil Henrietta recogizes Ash, then the issue is pretty much clear. And when did Scott and Ash rent the cabin? They arrived one week after Knowby died - Annie talked about the fact she hasn't been hearing from her father for a week. Maybe Knowby dealt with the guys one month before he would go to Kandar?

I suppose he could have made the deal with them weeks or months in advance. They were college students. They wouldn't have much money, it could be that they had been making payments to her for a while.

Ash was 24 years old. I'm not American... how does the college work in terms of age? Also, I think Evil Dead II retconned the backstory (of course). Is there any evidence in The Evil Dead pointing at the fact that the cabin belonged to the (then-unnamed) "archeologist"?

Typically in college for around 4 years so he would be a bit old for a college student, but it's not unbelievable. Heck, I'm back in college and I'm 39.

Heck, I'm back in college and I'm 39. LMAO, I was born in 1977 too. That said, he wasn't a college student. I think Cheryl, Shelly and Linda were that. AoD established that he already worked at a S-Mart shop. It fits with my scenario, because I strongly believe that Shelly and Linda were coming from other towns, not Elk Grove. Maybe even Scott...
